Well most people are probably asking why I have made the decision to sell out and leave Angeles City so I will try and answer most of the questions by this post!

After having a heart attack last year and my father passing away things have not been the same for me! It’s not really much fun to be sitting in your own bar and then you can’t drink! While I was in the US I found out that my 2 children who were born here in the Philippines need to spend at least 2 years living on US soil or they will not have all the benefits of a US citizen.

Although their citizenship could never be taken away the fact that if they do not live in the US for a min of 2 years, when and if they got married they would not be able to sponsor their spouse to the US and also their children would not be eligible to be US citizens. This to me would be a big factor in their life and I would not be a very good father if I did not look after this fact for them.

After finding out about the above I looked into returning to the US by 2010. This would be when my 16 year old son would be staring his junior year in High School so that he would at least spend 2 years there before he graduated form High School.

Why the change to move now?

Well there are several factors that made me come to this decision!

1st the bullshit that is going on with the city here is very stressful and I am not the kind of person that could either keep my mouth shut or back down from them.

2nd is the fact that the housing market is so low right now with all the foreclosures that houses are selling form anywhere from 30% to 50% of their current value. So now would be a perfect time to buy! After the election I feel that the housing market will start to go back up and then it would cost me more!

3rd I can apply with the VA and get not only my heart meds for free (right now am spending about $300 per month) but since I am over 50 and deemed unable to work do to the heart problem I can also draw some disability and even possibly draw some social security for my 2 children that are under the age of 18 and living with me.

Why Las Vegas?

Well the fact that it is a desert state makes it nice to me as I have always lived where it is hot! The other thing is that it is a no sales tax state makes it also nice! I can buy a nice 3 or 4 bedroom townhouse in a nice area just outside of Las Vegas for around $80,000.00. With being a single parent I would rather live in a nice townhouse that I can take care of the cleaning myself and not have to worry about the outside grounds! Also most have a pool that myself and my kids can use and I don’t have to worry about the maintenance on it either.

I also have some very good friends that live there as well. Two former seal team 1 members live there and one of them is like me, a single parent. Another good friend that I have known since before I moved form Taiwan who Martin from Lollipop also knows, lives there in Vegas most of the time now. One of the reasons I want a 4 bedroom place is so that I can have a guest room for anyone that wants to come and visit.

Roadhouse

This was probably the hardest thing to sell! The amount of people and friends that I have met over the years is far to many to name!!! They always say that you should never fall in love with a business but for me this was like a child to me! The staff that have worked for me over the past years are also something that I had to consider.

There were 2 things that clinched the deal with Derek and I and that is that not only will he keep ALL staff but also he a Rotarian from Scotland already will continue to hold the fund raisers and support the Bahay Bata Center.

Girlie and Olive are like sisters to me! With out these two there would never have been a Roadhouse! They have always treated me like family and made be feel more than welcome to live here! They have put up with all my shit and still stuck by me no matter what! I just can’t ever say enough about these two women!!! The fact that they will still be running the place not only makes me happy but kind of makes me feel like my child is still going to grow and I can come visit it at any time. Derek has offered to carry the staff and their benefits as well just like I have and also will have Girlie show him how to put his other staff in the other bars on things like SSS and Philhealth. As Derek has told me he doesn’t plan on changing 1 little thing in Roadhouse.

Royal Amsterdam Hotel

This is another business that has done better than good in my book! If it had a swimming pool it would be a 4 star hotel in my opinion. It helping to build and run the place so well has paid off so that I could sell my shares in it. One of Ralf’s friends will buy part of it and Ralf will buy the remainder! I believe that Ralf will be talking to Girlie to work for him part time to handle the HR part of things just as she has done for me since we have opened it.

I would like to thank all the people who I have met over the years and helped with different things and all the one’s that have become such good friends of mine. You folks are the ones that made Roadhouse what it has become!!!
